= today = July, 18th

== the day was == so much fun!  :-)  Well, in the morning I actually tried to battle the white fly with a home-made concoction of oregano, horsetail, garlic and citronella essential oil.  I sprayed the tea onto the cabbage-leaves and also cleaned off the white residue the flies leave on the plants.  I wasn't sure if this procedure was doing any good at all.  But when I checked on the plants later in the afternoon all the white flies on the cabbage were dead and fell off.  I'm not exactly sure what killed them but I was happy about the result.  Unfortunately, in the evening there were new white flies - and I realized I just have to keep spraying for a while now.
After work was done, the kids and I went to the outdoor-swimming pool.  It was great fun and it was all splashing in the water, shooting down the slide, diving and doing 'stunts' (not me, mind) :-)
We stayed until almost closing time, then the kids went to feed Lisa's friend's pets and noticed that one of the chicks had hatched.  They phoned me straight away with total excitement.  So sweet!
The evening faded with the kids playing on the (car-free) road with scooters and street chalk.

...so toll! :-)  Morgens war ich im Garten damit beschäftigt, den weißen Kohlfliegen (die ja eigentlich Schildläuse sind, wie ich herausfand) mit einem selbsterdachten Gebräu aus Oregano, Schachtelhalm, Knoblauch und Citronella-Öl den Garaus zu machen.  Ich habe die Kohlblätter mit dem Tee besprüht, und die weißen Flecken, die die Fliegen hinterlassen, abgerieben.  Ich war nicht sicher, ob ich mit dieser Prozedur überhaupt etwas erreiche, aber als ich die Pflanzen nachmittags checkte, fielen alle weißen Fliegen, die an den Blättern saßen tot auf die Erde.  Ich weiß nicht genau, was von meine Mittelchen die Tierchen getötet hat, das Ergebnis freute mich aber.  Leider waren abends dann wieder neue Fliegen da, und ich denke, ich werde jetzt regelmäßig sprühen müssen, um dauerhaft diese Viecher zu vertreiben (falls es überhaupt möglich ist).
Nach all der Arbeit sind wir dann nachmittags alle zum Freibad geradelt.  Wir verbrachten eine lustige Zeit mit im Wasser planschen, die Rutsche hinunter sausen, tauchen und Kunststücke üben (nicht ich! ;-).
Wir sind fast bis zum Schluss geblieben und dann sind die Kinder noch zu Lisa's Freundin gefahren, um ihre Tiere zu versorgen.  Die Freude war ganz groß, als sie bemerkten, dass das erste Küken geschlüpft ist.  Sie haben mich sofort angerufen, um mir Bescheid zu sagen.  So süß!
Der Abend klang damit aus, dass die Kinder auf der (autofreien) Straße mit Rollern und Straßenkreide spielten.

== we made == I didn't make anything, but I composed another piece on the piano.  A meeting with the piano-teacher is in order today.

Ich habe nichts gehandarbeitet, dafür habe ich ein neues Stück auf dem Klavier geschrieben.  Ein Treffen mit dem Klavierlehrer steht deshalb heute an.

ein bisschen in die Landkarte der Zeit;  H.G.Wells ist gerade auf der Bildfläche erschienen, und das Ganze wird jetzt wesentlich interessanter.

== in the kitchen == Blueberries and raspberries to snack on; lots of salad from the garden; the kids requested fried potatoes (cut into mini-cubes) - very simple!

Blaubeeren und Himbeeren zum Naschen; ganz viel Salat aus dem Garten;  die Kinder wollten gern Bratkartoffeln (in kleine Würfelchen geschnitten) essen - ganz einfach!

== thoughts & plans == I most probably will have next week off.  Holiday!  I wonder how to use the time well and wisely:  lots of garden work?  Some sewing?  More visits to the swimming-pool?  Writing at the Ice-Cream parlour?  :-)

Nächste Woche habe ich höchstwahrscheinlich frei.  Urlaub!  Ich frage mich, wie ich die Zeit am besten nutzen könnte:  ganz viel Gartenarbeit?  Ein bisschen nähen?  Des öfteren zum Freibad fahren?  Im Eis-Cafe sitzen und schreiben?  :-)
