Deep thoughts of a little boy

Today on our way to the supermarket
Jamie: "Maybe all this isn't real. Maybe I am a crab just dreaming
that I am a human being."

Or before bedtime
Jamie: "Well, I have been there for a bit in the past, but not all the time. There was a time when I was absent. When I was gone."
Me: ???
Jamie: "I mean in your past I have been there a little bit. But not all
the time. I have also been somewhere else."
Me: "What do you mean? When in the past? Where were you when you weren't around?" (...thinking he meant a recent day or one day in the past, a specific event)
Jamie: "I don't know where I was. I was in your tummy at some point, but I don't know where I was before..."
(...now Mama realized that he meant that he has been with me for a relativly short time considering I have been around for quite a while - much longer than him anyway.)

...my little philosopher.

What is this?

Answer: Soon-to-be-Apple-puree! :-)

Of Wool And Birds

Whilst I am knitting he passes my wool-box and picks up a ball of wool which seemed to have caught his eye.
For a moment he turns it in his hands, thoughtfully. Feeling the softness, looking at the shape of the ball, imagination asking: 'What could this be?' 'What can I make out of this?'
He turns around and states: "Mama, this is a great tit (Kohlmeise)! It needs wings."
Thinking hard he comes up with the idea that my needles could be wings and eagerly he tries out.
But he's not content. Needles don't look OR flap like wings.
I find a scrap of black felt in the box and cut him a piece that remotely looks like wings. A tail follows. And...what about those buttons for eyes?
My little boy is excited and satisfied, and his small hands are carefully working and turning an old wool ball into a bird.
He smiles as we are sticking on the paper beak.

Off you fly! :-)

Making things

My little boy comes up with different ideas every day. He wonders about how he could build this or create that. He loves using simple material like wood, fabric, wool, paper... to imitate the 'real' things.
Yesterday he constructed a tram route all the way from his room to the living room. Wool was the overhead catenary and some Duplo wheelers were connected to be the tram.
Looked and worked great (he threaded the wool through the front windows so that they were actually connected - like the real ones).

Sometimes his ideas just don't work out. It is e.g. impossible to make a hot air balloon out of paper - no matter how hard you try. (Or maybe we haven't tried it the right way...?)
But it doesn't matter if our experiments fail, his brain keeps working and will surely come up with the next idea. :-)

I do love simple plans of making a cardboard kite or a paper doll or folded little boxes. Those are the things that are fun and easy and make us all happy!
The kite on the pic above even flew - if we were running against the wind. :-)

Isla's Daybook

For today...Saturday

Outside my Window...a grey sky and I know it's chilly this morning. I wonder if autumn is on the way already.

I am thinking...about nothing right now. My head's a little fuzzy... We are wondering where Lisas Dad might be. He was living in Greece but we lost contact. Apparently there is a plan to move to Germany, soon. But only rumours...

I am thankful for...my friends who don't hesitate one second to help me!! In difficult times you really know who is on/by your side.

From the kitchen...I am so happy that this summer - even though it wasn't very sunny - has brought me a lot of fruits and veg which I could freeze or make into something for wintertime.
For example we had so many redcurrents. I could turn them into a very delicious syrup and some jelly. I also tried out apple-syrup (very yummy!) and two days ago we picked a big bag of apples which are growing unattendly near the woods. I will make a lot of apple puree for the freezer and maybe some more syrup with clove and cinammon (perfect for upcoming autumn or Christmas time).

I am wearing...
come on - it's weekend! ;-) I am not dressed, yet.

I am reading...'Deutsch für Profis' und 'Das flammende Kreuz'. I love Diana Gabaldon's books. But they have so many pages, it takes me ages to finish them.

I am hoping...to get my car repaired. The police has found it, but it's in a real state! I don't even know, yet, if it is worth patching it up again. I will know more by next week. (keep fingers crossed)

I am hearing...'I'll be there' by the Jackson 5, and my kids playing.

One of my favorite things...right now are 'Krümelmonsterkekse' :-D They are very yummy, we all love them!

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week...
there's not really a rest of the week.
Maybe I should turn this into a monthly thing. So there you go:
My plans for next month:
- get a bike
- get car repaired if possible
- finish my knitting project for babyborn (I'll show you)
- practice new songs and step up a level in my guitarplaying (a new workbook is needed for fingerpicking styles)
- get more fluent on the accordeon
- buy new strings for my fiddle (they are more than ten years old and one string has snapped :-(
- type up all my handwritten stuff from the last months.
- (...to be continued :-P)

A picture I'd like to share with you...

~ that was Lisa as a baby - great face!
